Works-For-Me Wednesday

What would we do without Shannon? She brings us all together each week on hump day for an exchange of ideas and community and friendship. I loved what Shalee over at the the Diner said in her WFMW last week about helping others and helping ourselves. Go read it and come back. I'll collect my thoughts. Take your time, it could be a while.

(WFMW Fringe Benefit: a good case of "Blogger's Block" can be remedied with participation in Works-for-Me Wednesday. )

My WFMW this week is one of these:

It's called a Birthday or Remembrance Calendar. I got mine from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and it hangs right there in my kitchen. These nifty little calendars have a month per page and show the days of the month BUT NOT the days of the week that they fall on, so you can use them perpetually. Just write the names of the special people in your life on the dates that are important to each person - birthdays, anniversaries - any special occasion that happens on the same day each year.

Now at a glance I can see whose birthday or anniversary is coming up and I don't have to write it on the new calendar each year or worry about carrying around the list with me in a Daytimer or PDA. (too easy to put down and forget.) I have this important information stare me in the face each day (throughout the day) and I also enjoy the fine art on the top of each page. (Pastomac always marvels at how I can remember everyone's birthday - how could I not, when it's staring me in the face ten thousand times a day!?!)

They aren't very expensive (some as low as $10.00) and you can get really nice ones with great artwork from Amazon.com and Metropolitan Museum of Art and Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Every four or five years I treat myself to a new one.

Works for me! Don't forget to check out Rocks in My Dryer for more great ideas.

I agree, it's a great idea, I have a smaller one hanging right next to my normal calendar, it always helps me remember :)

This is a great idea. I have something similar, that I created myself. Perhaps I'll use it as one of my next WFMW tips. :)

Thanks for your comment on my WFMW (alternate use for a pot rack) post. It was kind of fun making something new out of something old! :)

I've got one of those. Now I just need to remember where I put it... (Laura from Org Junkie could have a field day with me!)

And thanks for the link. That was awfully sweet of you.

I have one of those type of calendars too! I love it since I don't have to change calendars out every year and write bdays/anniversary on a new one each time. It sits by my computer so I can see who's special day is coming up!

Great tip!

I got your email about the 2nd part of the adoption story - sorry I haven't had a chance to read or reply yet - too busy around here! - but I hope to read it tonight! Thanks for letting me know it was up!

Oh yeah! It takes a long time to fill out the new calendar each year...that would sure be a shorter job with a perpetual calendar hanging next to the yearly one.

I've got one of those in a pocket version where you could put the cards. I used to use it for cousins birthdays and such, but then it got to where no one ever sent us cards and I just couldn't keep it up. So there it sits neglected! But hey, now I get more time to blog! Acutally, check my blog next Wed. to find out what I do on birthdays!

You are truly exemplary in the area of keeping up on the birthday thing. Now my friends will know why I manage to remember their birthdays occasionally myself!
